“Today we’d like to introduce you to Becca Gaines.

Hi, Becca. We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I didn’t even know interior design was a career option as a kid. However, looking back, I can see the writing on the wall. My habits and interests set me up to fit this industry. As a senior in high school, I earned my pilot’s license and went to The University of Alabama to study Aerospace Engineering. I loved small planes and wanted to fly to remote locations. I eventually started looking at other degree paths, accepting that my migraines would make me a dangerous pilot. A dear family friend studied interior design then, and I could see through his projects that good design improves lives and celebrates individuality. I wanted to be a part of that!

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I landed a fantastic design job in Nashville with Rozanne Jackson when I graduated from design school. It was hard work, but such a gift to learn from this talented, humble, hardworking woman. A few years later, my husband and I moved home to Memphis, and I started my own company (in a recession) while I was pregnant with our first daughter. I’ve had several heavy-loaded seasons where I’ve had to put my head down and work through it. Covid was one of those. We kept up, but jumping through hoops to get things done took a lot more time and money. We’ve also had some significant growth seasons that were fun and worth celebrating but still took a big push to pull off. This includes opening our retail showroom and the show homes that we have participated in. I also really need help with social media. I’d rather be in the studio getting things done than crafting something on my phone that makes it look like I’m busy in the studio. However, in terms of marketing my services, it’s essential to make time to show my work.

We’ve been impressed with B. Gaines Interior Design, but for folks who might need to be more familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
I own a full-service, registered Interior Design firm in Germantown. My company specializes in curating sophisticated residential and commercial spaces from architectural concept to completion. As the principal designer, I work closely with all our clients to formulate personalized design details that set a unique aesthetic direction for the entire project while managing the steps of their home-building journey. Through a highly organized and relational process, I create personal, elegant, and impactful spaces, celebrating my clients’ personalities and lifestyles. I am proud to hold a state registration backed by formal training and invaluable apprenticeships. I love to draw and create from scratch. The BGID fingerprint is all about details. Our project selections are not in a multiple choice line-up or mapped out by an architect or cabinet shop. We enjoy procuring those selections and designing the places to use them.”
